The CICADA system questions social representations of an imaginary south. The project implements a universal archetype, the cicada, which here becomes a pretext for exploring the information flow of the Twitter network.
The song of the Cicada has become a form of the unconscious leaving its mark on our memory of summer landscapes. CICADA uses this collective image by staging four digital representations of cicadas hung like pictorial works on a picture rail. The combination of insects flying provides a familiar buzz to the audience. When a cicada stops its flight and lands to sing, a message is displayed, drawn from all the exchanges dedicated to the notion of the south. These messages come from instant searches on Twitter, carried out in real time during the exhibition.
